Building 802 was one of several warehouses built at the start of WWII. The Port of Oakland Army Base was a new supply base and port facility built on the Oakland waterfront just south of the Bay Bridge. The building was constructed of wood and involved the use of a lot of wide dimension old growth douglas fir. The warehouse was crucial for getting a lot of material out to the Pacific theater to supply the war effort.
In 2009, Building 802 needed to be removed to make way for improved freight facilities at the Port. Instead of demolition, the Port of Oakland decided to take a different approach. They decided to put in the extra effort to have the building deconstructed and the high-quality wood was repurposed.
Your pen will be carefully crafted from old growth Douglas Fir removed from historic Building 802.
