San Quentin State Prison opened on July 14, 1852. It is also the oldest prison in California with a colorful past. From famous prisoners like Black Bart to Charles Manson, from Sirhan Sirhan to Merle Haggard. The prison has the only death chamber in the state, but the execution methods have changed from hanging, to gas, and currently lethal injection. Interestingly, it also has an inmate baseball team and inmate newspaper.
Your product has been made from wood from the prison hospital, built in 1885, which was demolished to make way for a state-of-the-art, certified healthcare facility. In the process of deconstructing the prison hospital, workers uncovered the forgotten prison Dungeon, built by inmates as California’s first public work in 1854.
