For seven years Stanford University struggled to build a magnificent group of buildings planned by the founders. These included the Chemistry Building, Gymnasium, Library, and Museum. The San Francisco earthquake of April 1906, heavily damaged these neoclassical monuments. For the Chemistry Building, all of the chimneys had collapsed, but repaired the same year. By 1987 the building was closed due to fire hazards and structural concerns. The University set into motion, new plans to restore and transform the Chemistry Building into a Science Teaching and Learning Center.
Pens Ink has been fortunate to obtain a small amount of wood from the original Chemistry Building and repurpose it into a unique hand-turned product. I hope you enjoy your piece of history for years to come.
